The Trent Valley Archives was founded in 1988, and incorporated in 1989. It is a public advocacy group promoting the preservation, identification, and care of archives.

Benefits of membership include unlimited use of the reading room at the Fairview Heritage Centre, subscription to Heritage Gazette of the Trent Valley™, and access to Ancestry.com, the world's largest online family history resource.

Summer Tours

 
Trent Valley Archives' 2012 summer tour season will be kicking off on Sunday, June 1st with our popular Scandals and Scoundrels pubcrawl. Each month offers a new tour: from rails and trails to music and mystery. Is there a better way to spend a sunny afternoon or a warm summer evening? Be entertained and educated by the history of the Peterborough area as you've never seen it before! Scroll down to read more. Scandals & Scoundrels Pubcrawl

Scandals & Scoundrels Pub Crawl
Fridays, 7 - 9:30pm
$15
Join the Trent Valley Archives Scandals and Scoundrels tour as we guide you through four historic taverns in downtown Peterborough. Tour begins at 7pm at the Simcoe St. bus terminal. There will be time for you to stop and have a drink! Tickets are $15 (not including drinks). This tour is not suitable for children.



Sunday afternoons, 1 - 3pm

Join your guide, as we bike Peterborough's historic rail trails to discover some fascinating places and people who have made our City great. Meet at the information kiosk beside the parking lot at the zoo. Tour is 3 hours in length at a leisurely pace. Private tours available and school tours encouraged (program can be adjusted to a walking tour to accommodate students).

Fact or Fiction Ghost Walk

Fridays, 9pm

Fridays throughout July and August: Ghostly truths or ghastly fiction? Find out during this 90-minute walk through Peterborough’s spooky downtown. Who can tell the real ghost stories from great storytelling? Meet at Confederation Park, across from City Hall. Tickets are $10.


West Side Story

Sunday July 15th and 29th, 4 - 5pm

Trent Valley Archives is pleased to offer "West Side Story", our historical walking tour focusing on Peterborough's west end. Come and join us as we bring to life the sometimes difficult relationship between the Homewood and Weller Street upper crust and the working class of Hopkins, Elm and Murray. Visit the roots of some of those who shaped our city and imagine a colourful cultural past as we stroll through Peterborough's original "Little Italy". Tours are approx one hour in length. Cost $10 per person. No reservations necessary. Meet your guide at the corner of Monaghan and Weller. Parking available at Queen Mary School.

Little Lake Cemetery
Little Lake Cemetery Tours

Sundays, 4pm

Sundays throughout August: Take a guided walking tour through picturesque Little Lake Cemetery. You could learn about symbolism in Victorian mourning and gravestones, meet some the cemetery’s current residents and learn of their tragic demises, or follow the careers of some of our local military personnel. Tours focus on a different theme each week. Meet at the cemetery gates. Tickets are $10.




Backwoods Peterborough Bus Tour

Join us for a one-day historical bus tour of Peterborough in celebration of the 180th anniversary of the arrival of the Traills in our area.
Thomas and Catharine Parr Traill Thomas and Catharine Parr Traill arrived in Peterborough in the summer of 1832, and stayed from August to November, before moving to Lakefield. While staying in Peterborough, Catharine was introduced to pursuits that characterized the rest of her life. She was captivated by the plants she found, and by the people she met. There are still reminders of the Peterborough of the 1830s, many with connections to the summer of 1832. The tour begins at 9:30 a.m. from the Trent Valley Archives, at the corner of Carnegie Avenue and Woodland Avenue, Peterborough. There is overflow parking at the neighboring Wayside School. The bus will return to Trent Valley Archives at about 3:30 p.m. Ticket includes a stop at Hutchison House for a tour and lunch. Space is limited so book early!

Take the challenge this Halloween with your family and friends! Tours begin a 7 pm at the Old Burying Ground (Confederation Park). Adults $15 Children under 12 $10. Reservations required.

Little Lake Cemetery Twilight Pageant
Friday the 26th, & Saturday the 27th

Introduce yourself to some of Peterborough’s most famous celebrities and hear them tell their fascinating stories at their own grave sites! Guided tours led by lantern light depart every 15 minutes, starting at 8pm and last about 1 hour ending at the chapel where refreshments will be served. Last tour departs at 10pm. Limited spaces available.

This spectacular event is a joint fundraiser with Showplace and Five Counties and is sponsored by Darling Insurance. Featuring some of Peterborough’s best musical talent, we chronicle the development of music in the local scene from the early Irish immigrants through the rock and roll era and beyond. We will also be drawing the name of the winner of our Guitar Raffle!
